Solar lighting secures the parking of an industrial site in France

26/11/2019

Twelve autonomous Novea Energies solar streetlights have been installed on the extension of the car park of an industrial oil site in Seine-Maritime (76). This high-quality solar street lighting provides comfort and safety for car park users, whether they are employees, visitors or customers.

Of the twelve lampposts, four are COMBI TOP 3 with a 160 Wp solar panel, a 704 Wh battery and a TEKK S luminaire. The other eight street lamps are COMBI TOP 5 with a 295 Wp panel, a 1,408 Wh battery and a TEKK S double brackets luminaire.

All the solar streetlights installed on this parking extension are switched on at dusk and provide full power for the next hour. The rest of the night, they operate in 20% dimming mode with a presence detection system that allows them to be switched back to full power when a user needs it, before switching off at dawn.

All the light points installed on this company car park are equipped with the intelligent system NOVEA CONTROL, which allows the remote management and control of the Novea autonomous solar lamp park. This system provides feedback and measures the performance of streetlights. The main advantage, which has decided the customer to opt for this solution, is the possibility of reprogramming the lighting columns remotely, without the need for a cradle to access their management system. The lamp groups are connected via a LoRa module installed on each lamp post to a wireless data network and a GSM gateway that connects all this data to a 3G/4G network.

It is essential to adapt the light if necessary, in order to provide reasoned lighting. The dimming mode allows to limit the use of energy when the need is limited, while marking the car park. The dimming mode also has the advantage of extending the life of the lighting components, in particular the battery and luminaire, which are thus used at full power only when the need is real.

The extension of the car park did not have the arrival of the network to supply the lighting, which is why the autonomous solution was the most suitable for this project. This totally autonomous solution requires no connection to the grid, no subscription to an electricity supplier, no trenching, no cable. Only a concrete block is sufficient to anchor our solar streetlights to the ground.

The choice of the autonomous solar-powered system was also a desire to reduce the ecological impact of public lighting. Our COMBI TOP lighting solutions limit the environmental impacts of lighting by offering an alternative to the consumption of fossil fuels and pollutants. In addition, the operation of these streetlights does not require an electricity subscription from an energy supplier, which reduces lighting costs.

The undeniable advantage of our autonomous solar products is their Endurance + battery. This is more than six years of Research & Development in partnership with the C.E.A. in Grenoble and industrialization, which make it possible to offer the most suitable and sustainable battery technology on the solar street lighting market today. These Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries offer the longest lifetime on the market, more than 22 years (up to an overall capacity loss of 20%). Extending the life of a battery limits the use of primary resources and greatly reduces the recycling process.
