In Cyprus, the crossroads of the E303 road in Xylotimbou is illuminated by Novea solar streetlights.

11/12/2019

In Xylotimbou, a village in the district of Larnaca, in the south-east of Cyprus, the crossroads of the main road (E303) is illuminated by solar energy. Users can use this road safely at all hours of the night.

The European road 303 is illuminated by Novéa solar-powered street lamps. This lighting allows this avenue to be used safely at nightfall. Several dozen kilometres long, the E303 is equipped with 11 COMBI TOP 5 lights which ensure the comfort and safety of users.

The installation therefore comprises 11 COMBI TOP 5 units with a lamp height of seven metres, equipped with a GRIFF XL luminaire, a 260 Wp solar panel and a 1,064 Wh battery.

All of these light points light up at dusk and illuminate at full power for four hours. During the rest of the night, when there are fewer people on the road, the road is marked out by keeping the luminaires on standby at 30% of full power. This dimming mode, which is activated when the need is low, provides adequate lighting and prolongs the life of the lamppost’s components, such as the battery and luminaire.

Novea lampposts are equipped with batteries featuring Endurance+ technology, which, thanks to its Lithium LiFePO4 cells and its unique energy flow management, offers the best life expectancy on the market. Seven years of R&D (in partnership with the CEA in Grenoble) and industrialization have enabled us to develop and perfect this unique battery, scientifically recognized as the most efficient and best suited to the solar-powered public lighting market.

Solar street lights are completely autonomous, so they do not require any connection to the grid, unlike traditional lighting, which requires heavy work that would have penalized traffic on this busy road. Their installation is simple, as only a concrete base is needed for anchoring to the ground. No subscription to an electricity supplier is required, but they offer constant, high-quality lighting thanks to the country’s solar deposit and high-quality energy storage technology.

Solar-powered autonomy also has an ecological advantage, as it is an alternative solution to the consumption of fossil fuels. The use of a solar-powered autonomous solution makes it possible to limit the environmental impact of public lighting.
