Novea solar-powered lamppost installations continue in Gabon

23/06/2020

Following the order for 3,000 of our COMBI TOP 3 solar street lamps, as part of Gabon’s 2018 priority measures, installations are continuing in the hinterland. Currently, installations are continuing in Ntoum, the capital of the Komo-Mondah department in the Estuary province, 38 km from the Gabonese capital Libreville.

The solar lampposts are installed in areas without conventional street lamps, i.e. connected to the electricity grid. The light provides safety and comfort to the inhabitants, who can thus extend their daily outdoor activities at nightfall and strengthen social ties. Public lighting also helps to revitalise certain neighbourhoods, in particular by encouraging the development of small commercial and catering activities in the evenings.

The solution provided by autonomous lighting is perfectly in line with the prospect of implementing a genuine energy transition through the production of electricity by renewable energies, as the Gabon Emerging Strategic Plan aims to do. The country’s exceptional solar potential fits perfectly with this desire to use renewable energies for public lighting. In addition, Novea solar street lamps are completely autonomous, which allows them to offer constant and quality lighting thanks to the country’s solar deposit, without suffering from the instability of the traditional electricity network.

The 3,000 street lamps currently being installed in the various neighbourhoods are COMBI TOP 3 consisting of a 160 Wp high-efficiency photovoltaic panel, an 819 Wh energy storage battery farm, and a TEKK S luminaire delivering 30 W lighting power for an average illumination level of 12 lux.

The ENDURANCE + technology developed by Novéa in partnership with the CEA in Grenoble offers a 5-year guarantee for more than 10 years of life. Thanks to its Lithium LiFePO4 cells and its unique management of energy flows, the Endurance + technology offers the best lifetime on the market. This battery, reputed to be the most powerful on the market, was developed after nearly ten years of research and development.

The operating program chosen for these poles is a full power ignition for five hours from dusk before switching to 50% dimming mode for the rest of the night until dawn, in order to provide a beacon for the area despite lower traffic levels. This management provides security throughout the night and guarantees the long life of our products.
